Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has now raised concerns about the same issue, questioning how players were previously allowed to stay in various hotels.
This comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave strict instructions to centrally contracted players to maintain discipline, unity, and a constructive team environment in the future.
One of the standards now clearly specifies that any player selected for a specific series or tour must remain in the same hotel as the rest of the team.
Irfan Pathan went on to say that in the past, even the best players would stay in the same hotel as the rest of the team. For the uninitiated, certain players were found to have frequently stayed in separate hotels with their individual families during past tours.
However, the BCCI has discontinued this practice, requiring all players to stay in the same hotel. The board has also requested that participants not leave practice sessions early, even after finishing their individual sessions.
"Even the greatest players in the past stayed in the same hotels as the rest of the Indian team. How was staying in a separate hotel allowed in the first place?" Irfan Pathan asked on X.
A user then asked the India all-rounder not to beat around the bush and publicly name Virat Kohli. However, Irfan replied, "Nah, I'm not talking about Virat."
Players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah also traveled separately from the Indian team, using chartered jets and buses to travel with family to remain private during the recent Australia tour.
