The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season will get underway on March 23, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed on Sunday (January 12).
Addressing the media following BCCI's general meeting, Shukla revealed the opening date of the showpiece T20 league.
Apart from the announcement of the IPL's start date, Shukla shared key decisions made regarding the administration of Indian cricket during the general meeting.
The BCCI VP revealed that Devajit Saikia will replace Jay Shah as the new board secretary, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia is elected as the board treasurer.
Shukla further stated that the meeting for Champions Trophy squads will take place between January 18-19, and the venues for the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL) will be announced soon as well.
on Saturday (January 11), the BCCI conducted a review meeting of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-24, which India lost 1-3 at the hands of Australia. The series preceded another 0-3 clean-sweep loss at home to New Zealand.
According to a PTI report, the meeting was over two-hour long with under-fire skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir. However, the board decided against any knee-jerk reaction to the debacle that was largely blamed on the poor form of senior players.
"There was a detailed discussion on the Border Gavaskar Trophy performance and what all went wrong and the course correction required. But do not expect a hurried decision from the new dispensation of BCCI," a source privy to developments in the Board told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
India conceded the BGT for the first time in a decade. As a result, they were also knocked out of the World Test Championship 2023-25 final.
With the ICC Champions Trophy around the corner, it is understood that any immediate reaction would have a negative impact on the team as well as the support staff.
