Cricket Australia (CA) has revealed its Test team of the year for 2024 and India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been included in it and named captain of the side as well. He is one of the two Indians in XI, the other being Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ben Duckett have been named as the openers of the Test team of the year 2024. Jaiswal scored 1,478 runs at 54.74 in 15 games, with three centuries and a best of 214. He finished the year as India's best run scorer in Tests.
Duckett, on the other hand, made 1,149 runs at 37.06 in 17 games, including two centuries and the top score of 153 in India.
At no.3 was the highest run-getter in Tests in 2024, England’s Joe Root. Root scored 1,556 runs at 55.57 in the 17 games that he participated in, in addition to 6 tons with the best of 262, which came in Pakistan.
The middle order consisted of Harry Brook, Kamindu Mendis, Rachin Ravindra, and Alex Carey was named the wicketkeeper of the side.
Rachin Ravindra was ranked fourth, hitting 984 runs at 42.78 with two centuries, one of which came in India as his team swept India at home.
Harry Brook and Kamindu Mendis followed him. The English batsman totaled 1,100 runs at 55.00, including four centuries, one of which was a triple century. On the other side, the Sri Lankan batsman amassed 1,049 runs at 74.92, including five centuries.
Alex Carey has been named the team's keeper-batter in celebration of his outstanding performances with the bat and gloves. He scored 440 runs at 33.84, including three fifties, and took 46 wickets, 42 catches,s and four stumpings.
Coming to the bowling attack, Keshav Maharaj is the lone spinner in the side. The SoutAfricanca player has 35 wickets in Tests this year, paving the way for his team’s WTC 2025 qualification.
Jasprit Bumrah has been named captain of the squad. The pacer took the most Test wickets in 2024, with 71. In addition, he scored five field goals in thirteen games.
Matt Henry and Josh Hazlewood are the team's two surviving pacers. Both possessed excellent ball skills and contributed to their respective teams' successes. The Kiwi pacer collected 48 wickets at 18.58 in nine games, while Hazlewood took 35 wickets at 13.60 in fifteen games.
