Shakib Al Hasan, the star Bangladesh player, has been reported for a suspect bowling action by the umpires during his one-off appearance for Surrey in this season's County Championship. This has led to the ECB asking the all-rounder to undergo an analysis of his bowling action.

Shakib, 37, took nine wickets for Surrey in a thrilling Championship match against Somerset at Taunton in September, his first appearance in the division since a brief spell with Worcestershire in 2010-11.

As a left-arm spinner, he had committed to a short-term contract to supplement Surrey's resources for their title challenge, at a time when eight players were away on England duty. Somerset won by a staggering 111 runs, despite Shakib's best efforts.

He bowled more than 63 overs in the match, and while he was not no-balled at any point for throwing, it has now been revealed that the on-field umpires, Steve O'Shaughnessy and David Millns, later found his bowling motion questionable.

The report states that while "Shakib is not suspended from playing, he will need to undergo further tests in an approved location within the next couple of weeks".

It's the first such instance for Shakib in his career spanning more than a decade and a half.

"The matter has no connection to international cricket or domestic cricket in other countries. The matter is under ECB jurisdiction and not related to ICC or other boards," Cricbuzz quoted a Bangladesh Cricket Board official.

Shakib Al Hasan has 712 wickets across 447 international matches, including 246 in 71 Tests.

In September, Shakib declared his retirement from T20Is. He had decided to retire from Test cricket after the home series against South Africa.

However, he withdrew from the series because he could not return to Bangladesh for security reasons. He had previously served as a Member of Parliament for the long-standing Awami League-led government, which was deposed in July after student protests.
