Former India wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has left a massive impact on the game with his leadership. He is the only skipper in the world to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies – 2007 World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin among others unleased their potential at the highest level and went on to establish themselves as the superstars of Indian cricket.
Not only the Indian players, but many international stars also took their game to the next level while playing under Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). No wonder, the 43-year-old is adored by masses for his unparalleled aura.
Recently, uncapped Indian pacer Mohsin Khan expressed his admiration for Dhoni and opened up on the impact the legend has had on his career.
“Dhoni bhai is my idol. Woh jo chakke maarte hai end mein jaake (The way he hits those sixes in the end is unbelievable),” Mohsin said while speaking on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast.
The left-arm quick recalled Dhoni’s iconic match-winning six from the 2011 ODI World Cup final, saying it remains his favourite cricketing moment.
“I was just 13 or 14 years old at the time, watching the final. As soon as he hit that six, it felt like a Diwali celebration everywhere,” he added.
Mohsin, who caught everyone’s attention with his stunning exploits for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, admitted that he gets too nervous to approach MS Dhoni for a conversation.
“I feel happy just seeing him from afar. Main samne se baat nhi kar pata hu (I can’t talk to him directly), but watching him gives me joy,” he confessed.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has dropped a massive hint about his participation in the IPL 2025. At a recent promotional event, the veteran campaigner said he wants to enjoy the “last few years of cricket” at a relaxed pace.
His comments have sparked speculation that CSK might retain him for IPL 2025 even though he passed the leadership baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad last season.
"I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play. In our childhood, we used to go out to play at 4 pm and enjoy the game. But when you play a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy cricket, just like a game. That's what I want to do,” Dhoni said.
Notably, each of the 10 IPL franchises can retain up to six cricketers, through the retention and Right To Match (RTM) option. These six retentions/RTMs can consist of a maximum of five capped players (both Indian and overseas) and up to two uncapped players. October 31 is the deadline for retentions ahead of next month’s mega auction.
