The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on October 27, 2024, announced the Men in Green squads for the white-ball tours of Australia and Zimbabwe.
Pakistan is set to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Australia from 4-18 November. They will then travel to Zimbabwe for ODIs and T20Is, which will be played from 24 November to 5 December.
However, the new Pakistan white-ball captain is yet to be named and will be unveiled by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.
Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, who were rested for the previous two Tests against England, will return for the Australia series but will be rested for the Zimbabwe tour. Similarly, Mohammad Rizwan will play for Australia and Zimbabwe in the One-Day Internationals but will be rested in the T20Is.
This technique adheres to the selectors' rotation philosophy and provides opportunities to domestic players, in line with the team's strategy for the ICC Champions Trophy and beyond.
The ODI team includes uncapped players such as Aamir Jamal, Arafat Minhas, Faisal Akram, Haseebullah, Muhammad Irfan Khan, and Saim Ayub. Jahandad Khan and Salman Ali Agha make it into the T20I squad for the first time.
Kamran Ghulam, Omair Bin Yousuf, and Sufyan Moqim make their national team debuts after previously playing limited-overs internationals. Kamran replaced Haris Sohail in an ODI against New Zealand in January 2023 due to a concussion, while Omair and Sufyan made their T20I debut against Hong Kong during the Asian Games men's cricket competition.
Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain, who took 17 wickets in the Champions One-Day Cup in Faisalabad last month, returns to the ODI squad, having last played for Pakistan against New Zealand in January 2023.
Apart from Babar, Naseem, Rizwan, Salman, and Shaheen, four other players have been included in both the ODI and T20I squads. Their names are Arafat Minhas, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah, and Muhammad Irfan Khan.
Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Faisal Akram, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, and Saim Ayub are selected solely for the ODIs and will be replaced by Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Omair Bin Yousuf, Sahibzada Farhan, Sufyan Moqim, and Usman Khan for the T20Is.
Seven ODI squad members – Babar Azam, Faisal Akram, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi – will depart for Melbourne on Monday, 28 October, with the remaining ODI players leaving on Tuesday, 29 October. Pakistan’s white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten, will join the squad in Melbourne on 28 October.
Apart from Salman Ali Agha, the other players selected for both forms are Ahmed Daniyal, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah, Mohammad Hasnain, Muhammad Irfan Khan, and Tayyab Tahir.
Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Faisal Akram, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, and Shahnawaz Dahani have been named to the ODI squad and will be replaced by Arafat Minhas, Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Omair Bin Yousuf, Qasim Akram, Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, and Usman Khan for the game's shortest format.
