Pakistan cricket is going through a tumultuous time lately. The Men in Green suffered a first-round exit from the ODI World Cup last year and the T20 World Cup this year, which included defeats against Afghanistan and USA.

As if this humiliation was any less, Pakistan faced an embarrassing 2-0 whitewash in the recently held home Test series against Bangladesh.

Pakistan’s annihilation has sparked strong reactions from their fans and former players, with many calling for the sacking of non-performing players in the side.

Recently, veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared his two cents on the sorry state of Pakistan cricket, calling it disappointing.

Ashwin said Pakistan has a rich cricket history but constant changes in leadership have introduced uncertainty and that’s why players play for themselves.

“Mein sach bolta hoon Ki Pakistan cricket ka jo aaj kal ka jo state hai aur jis phase mein hai woh log hai dekh ke thoda, I feel sorry. Kyuki Pakistan cricket team mein kaise-kaise khatarnak cricketers khele. Lajawab cricketers bhi khele the Pakistan ke liye aur itna achi team. Ek cricketer Ki taraf se agar dekha jaye to ye jo cricketing country hai is a proud cricketing country. Aur inke paas kahan skill nahi hai? Itne saare skilled players hai,” Ashwin said in a video doing rounds on social media.

“Aur kabhi kabhi aisa unka jo ye musical chair hai yaar sacchi mein kyuki itna musical chair hai. Music chalta rahega aur hum chair pakadne ka sochenge waisa aap soch lo. 2023 ka World Cup mein woh log haar gaye the fir Babar (Azam) ne resign kiya. Fir (Shaheen Shah) Afridi ko captaincy diya tha fir wapas Babar ko limited overs dekar Shan Masood ko Test cricket mein captain banaya aur haal dekho Ki home mein Pakistan ne Test match hi nahi jeeta. I mean bahut din se Test match nahi jeeta, shayad koi 1000 din mein Test match nahi jeeta vaisa kuch hai. Almost 3 saal ho chuka hai (They lost in the 2023 World Cup, then Babar resigned. Then Afridi was given the captaincy, then again Babar was given limited overs and Shan Masood was made the captain in Test cricket and look at the situation, Pakistan has not won a Test match at home. I mean, they have not won a Test match for a long time, maybe around 1000 days. Almost 3 years have passed),” he added.

“Toh, as a cricketer, main kya sochunga. Mere game pe dhyan lagau ya team ke upar dhyan lagau. Har jo cricketer hai woh dressing room ke andar itna sara instability rahega na wo khud ke upar sochne lagenge aur team ke baare mein Kam sochenge (So what would I think as a cricketer. Should I focus on my game or on the team? Every cricketer will be so unstable inside the dressing room that he will start thinking about himself and will think less about the team),” he further remarked.

Pakistan are going to face a tough test against a powerful England team in a few days. The Three Lions had defeated Pakistan 3-0 the last time they visited for a Test series in 2022.

The Shan Masood-led will have to turn things around against England to have any chance of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s next year.

The three-match Test series is slated to get underway on October 7 in Multan.
