Government to decide if India will travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025: BCCI VP Rajiv Shukla

Pakistan is to host Champions Trophy 2025 from Feb 19- March 9.

Pakistan is to host Champions Trophy 2025 from Feb 19- March 9 | ICCBCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said on Monday that the Indian government will make the final decision on whether Team India will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy next year.

Pakistan will host the ICC ODI competition from February 19 to March 9, 2025. This is the first time Pakistan has hosted an ICC event since the 1996 World Cup.

Pakistan did travel to India in 2016 for the T20 World Cup and in 2023 for the ICC World Cup and expect India to reciprocate the gesture.

However, BCCI VP Rajiv Shukla, talking to the media on the sidelines of the ongoing second Test between India and Bangladesh, stated that India traveling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy will be decided by the Indian government.

"No decision has been taken (yet). But our policy is that for international tours, we always seek the permission of the government. It's up to the government to decide whether our team should go to any country or our team should not go to any country. In this case (also), whatever the government will decide, we will abide by that," Shukla was quoted by PTI.

The bilateral cricket relations between India and Pakistan have been on hold since 2012-13. India last traveled to Pakistan for the 2008 Asia Cup and when the 2023 Asia Cup was to be played in Pakistan, India refused to travel. The tournament was then played in hybrid model with India playing its games in Sri Lanka.
