“I don't see any chances,” Aakash Chopra shares his thoughts on Shreyas Iyer’s Test comeback

Shreyas Iyer last played a Test for India during the home series against England in February 2024.

Shreyas, who last played a Test for India during the home series against England in February 2024, failed to make a cut in the squad for the opening Test of the upcoming two-match rubber against Bangladesh.

The middle-order batter was also left out of the BCCI central contract earlier this year after failing to adhere to BCCI’s diktat of playing domestic cricket, citing injury concerns.

Last month, Iyer was picked in the Indian ODI squad for the tour of Sri Lanka but he had a disappointing outing, returning with scores of 23, 7 and 8.

"It's interesting that last time when we beat Bangladesh in Bangladesh, Shreyas Iyer gave a very important performance in the last match. We won because he played a crucial knock, but since then, the world has changed. I don't see any chances for Shreyas Iyer in Tests at the moment," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

According to Aakash Chopra, the presence of Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel and KL Rahul in the squad is not a good sign for Shreyas Iyer.

"Whoever is there will also not be able to play all the matches. The guys who are part of this team, which includes Sarfaraz, KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, I feel they only won't be able to come in the XI. So where will Shreyas Iyer come in this?" he added.

Meanwhile, Iyer is currently leading India D in the Duleep Trophy 2024. He registered scores of 9 and 54 in the first round of the competition while his team lost to India C by four wickets.

Shreyas Iyer has represented India in 14 Tests so far, amassing 811 runs at an average of 36.86, including one hundred and five half-centuries.
