Virat Kohli is widely regarded as one the greatest cricketers of the modern era. The star batter enjoys a massive fan following and he is counted among the highest earning athletes in the world.
According to a list released by Fortune India, Kohli was the highest-taxpaying sportsperson in the country in the financial year 2023-24.
The report claimed that Kohli paid ₹66 crore in FY24, which is roughly three times more than the selling price of IPL's costliest player, Mitchell Starc (₹24.75 crore).
Kohli is followed by World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni, who paid Rs 38 crore in taxes, and batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who paid Rs 28 crore, completing the top three cricketers in the list.
Others are Sourav Ganguly who contributed Rs. 23 crore to the state's exchequer on taxes, and the all-rounder, Hardik Pandya who contributed Rs. 13 crore in taxes
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly also made the list of top taxpayers, contributing ₹23 crore. All-rounder Hardik Pandya paid ₹13 crore in taxes while wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, despite being out of action due to car accident in 2023, paid ₹10 crore in taxes.
Among all Indian celebrities, Virat Kohli ranked fifth, trailing behind famous actors such as Shah Rukh Khan (₹92 crore), Vijay (₹80 crore), Salman Khan (₹75 crore), and Amitabh Bachchan (₹71 crore).
