Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has played an instrumental role in Team India’s dominance over the years, especially in Test cricket.

In 100 Tests, Ashwin has claimed 516 wickets so far at an average of 23.75, including 36 five-wicket hauls. The ace off-spinner was also part of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013.

At 37, Ashwin is in the twilight of his career but he has little doubt that someone in the future will emerge and do better than him.

During a conversation with veteran cricket journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said he is carrying the legacy of Indian spinners forward from where legends like Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh left it.

"Mai lucky hu (I am lucky). What (legacy) Anil bhai and Harbhajan left, I have learnt from that. Whatever I am doing today is because of them, and what I am doing is part of the journey," Ashwin said.

Continuing to talk about an evolving world, Ashwin gave an example of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"When people say they (cricketers) are making so much in the IPL, this and that, mai soch kar hasta hu (I laugh thinking about it). If the IPL happens in 2040, will the salary be the same as it is today?" he asked.

"The world will stride forward," said Ashwin, who currently holds the number one ICC Test all-rounder rankings.

"I will leave somewhere, and someone else will move forward. It's like a 400m relay race....someone will run 100m and someone else another 100m. So it is an evolution and people will be better. And I am 100 percent sure that someone better or even amazing than me will come."

Ashwin has been away from international cricket since March this year when India last played a Test series against England. The off-spinner will be among the first names in the squad when the Indian team returns to red-ball action against Bangladesh later this month.

India have 10 Tests remaining in the ongoing WTC cycle, which will determine whether they make the third-straight final appearance.
