Former India skipper MS Dhoni is widely regarded one of the sharpest minds in the game of cricket, and his cabinet full of ICC trophies is proof of that. However, another thing in which Dhoni excels is the Decision Review System (DRS), in which he is crazily accurate whenever he opts for a review.
There are hardly any DRS calls that go against him, which has appropriately earned him the ‘Dhoni Review System’ tag from the fans and experts alike.
Speaking on 2 Sloggers podcast, Indian umpire Anil Choudhary recently shared his thoughts on the unparalleled reviewing skills of Dhoni.
"He is very accurate, almost close to accurate," Choudhary noted, highlighting how Dhoni's instinct and cricketing brain have set him apart over the years.
The veteran umpire acknowledged that while Dhoni's decisions are not infallible, they are rarely off the mark. He also explained the challenges a wicketkeeper faces while making calls on DRS reviews.
"Sometimes what happens is that the keeper stays behind, even he can't see the position of the bowler. That's a different thing. But he is very reasonable," Choudhary added.
Talking about MS Dhoni, he stepped down as CSK captain on the eve of the IPL 2024 opener, handing over the leadership baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Despite struggling with knee injury, Dhoni’s performance this season was remarkable as he amassed 161 runs at an average of 53.66 and a staggering strike rate of 220.54 across 11 innings.
While many experts believe that it was Dhoni’s last IPL season, the 43-year-old has kept his cards close to chest. As per reports, his participation in IPL 2025 season for CSK could depend on number of retentions.
If the number of retained players is five or six, Dhoni could feature in the cash-rich league. In 2018, the franchises were allowed to keep five players for the season, but it was brought down to four in 2022.
The players likely to be retained by the CSK management include Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana and Shivam Dube. In case of more retentions, Dhoni might turn up in the yellow jersey for another season.
