Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been fined 10 percent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching Level 1 of its Code of Conduct during the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

Shakib threw the ball at Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan in frustration on Day 5 of the series opener, which Bangladesh went on to win by 10 wickets.

Shakib seemed upset after having to pull out midway through his run-up since Rizwan wasn’t ready to face him. He threw the ball towards the Rizwan as it crossed over the batter’s head.

On-field umpire Richard Kettleborough took notice of Shakib Al Hasan’s act and had word with the Bangladesh veteran.

Apart from the match fee, Shakib has also been handed a demerit point for the offense.

As per an ICC release, the match referee penalised Shakib in accordance with Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

Shakib picked up four wickets in the Rawalpindi Test, including three in Pakistan’s second innings as the hosts suffered a batting collapse to be bowled out for 146.

Since the visitors had taken a sizeable first-innings lead of 117 runs, they needed only 30 runs in the final essay to go 1-0 up in the two-Test series. It was Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win over Pakistan in 14 matches.

The second between Bangladesh and Pakistan will be played at the same venue from August 30.
