The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly earned a surplus of Rs 5120 crore from the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023). The report further claimed that it was a 116 percent jump from the Rs 2367 crore surplus that the BCCI earned from IPL 2022.
According to Economic Times, BCCI's total income from IPL 2023 was Rs 11,769 crore, up 78% year on year. The expenditure also jumped by 66% to Rs 6648 crore, according to the BCCI's 2022-23 annual report.
The study attributed the growth to new media rights and sponsorship arrangements. The new media rights contract is valued at Rs 48,390 crore for the 2023-27 season. It began with the IPL 2023.
Disney Star acquired IPL TV rights in 2021 for Rs 23,575 crore (for 2023-27). Jio Cinema acquired the digital rights at Rs 23,758 crore. The IPL championship rights were acquired by Tata Sons for Rs 2500 crores.
On the other hand, a BCCI source told ANI, that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. The BCCI is set to request ICC to hold its matches in Sri Lanka or Dubai. The ICC Champions Trophy will be held next year from February to March 2025 in Pakistan.
While addressing India's participation in the BCCI source, told ANI, "India will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. Will tell ICC to hold its matches in Dubai or Sri Lanka."
Due to strained relations between the two countries, India has not participated in any cricket competitions in Pakistan since the Asia Cup in 2008. The two nations' final bilateral series was held in India from December 2012 to January 2013. Since then, both nations have only competed in ICC competitions and the Asia Cup.
The relationship between the two countries has created uncertainty over India's participation in the next event.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had requested that India play all of its matches in a single city. ESPNcricinfo announced that Lahore had been chosen as the location for all of India's matches. However, the Indian board is not interested in traveling to Pakistan.
