India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal shined with the ball on his debut match for Northamptonshire against Kent in England’s domestic One-Day Cup at St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury on Wednesday (August 14).
Chahal returned with the figures of 10-5-14-5, helping his team bundle out Kent for a paltry 82 in 35.1 overs. Jaydn Denly, Ekansh Singh, Grant Stewart, Beyers Swanepoel and Nathan Gilchrist were his victims.
Taking to social media platform X, the handle of Metro Bank One Day Cup shared a video of Chahal’s unplayable spell and revealed that the leg-spinner conceded only four runs in his last eight overs.
Here’s the clip:
Thanks to Chahal’s heroics, Northamptonshire thrashed Kent by nine wickets. They chased down the target of 83 in just 14 overs, with James Sales (33*) and George Bartlett (31*) completing the formalities.
Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal has not had the best of times lately. He was left out of the BCCI central contracts list earlier this year. While the leg-spinner was included in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, he didn’t a chance to showcase his skills during India’s triumphant campaign.
Chahal, who is eyeing his return to the Indian team, has joined Northamptonshire for their last fixture in the One-Day Cup and remaining five matches in the County Championship Division Two.
