Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has sounded a strong warning for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to prevent any due events from happening during the upcoming home series if they want to host the Champions Trophy 2025.

This will be Pakistan's first ICC event since the 1996 ODI World Cup, which it co-hosted alongside India and Sri Lanka.

Ali stated that any security mistakes during the next series at home against Bangladesh, England, and the West Indies could harm Pakistan's prospects of successfully hosting the Champions Trophy.

"Since the Champions Trophy is in Pakistan, and teams like England and West Indies are scheduled to tour after Bangladesh, we must pay attention to security. God forbid, the Champions Trophy won't be played here if there is any incident in these tours. Our soldiers are getting martyred in Balochistan and Peshawar. Only the government can answer why it has been happening, but it's wrong,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel.

Security concerns arise from previous occurrences in which international teams stated their anxieties while touring Pakistan. Due to security concerns, New Zealand abruptly canceled their tour just before the start of the ODI series in 2021, and England did the same later that year.

"We must ensure that there is not even a small security breach. The foreign teams should get the same security as our Prime Minister and President. I am sure Mohsin Naqvi will be aware of these things,” Ali added.

The emphasis on security intensifies before Pakistan's home cricket season begins on August 21 with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The government wants to ensure that all visiting teams feel comfortable and secure, which is required for successfully hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Any bad events during these series could jeopardize Pakistan's chances of hosting the event.
