WATCH: “I believe in higher purpose,” Sanju Samson speaks on his ODI snub despite hitting century in last appearance

Samson was not included in India's squad for the recently held ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Sanju Samson | GettyOnce hailed as a prodigious talent, Sanju Samson made his India debut in 2015 at the age of 21. For the next five years, he was overlooked in the national side before he finally earned a call-up in 2020.

As of today, Samson has represented India in 16 ODIs and 30 T20Is, amassing more than 900 runs across the white-ball formats with one hundred and five half-centuries.

Although he was part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad, Samson didn’t get any opportunity during the marquee event. The 29-year-old Samson also failed to make the cut in India’s squad for the recently held ODI series against Sri Lanka despite hitting a century in his last 50-over appearance.

However, Sanju Samson is happy with his team doing well no matter how much he plays and it is the higher purpose he believes in.

Speaking at a press event during the launch of Kerala Cricket League, Samson said he will just go and play when he gets selected.

"I will just go and play whenever they select it. That's it! End of the day, our team is doing well. I am the kind of person who believes in higher purpose. I just try to take things positively under controllable circumstances and put up the efforts," he stated.

Sanju Samson last featured for India in the T20I series against Sri Lanka in July, where he bagged two consecutive ducks.

It remains to be seen if he gets picked for the home T20I series against Bangladesh, slated to get underway on October 6.
