Veteran India pacer Mohammad Shami has broken his silence over an infamous incident, involving him and Hardik Pandya from the IPL 2022 season.
Both of them were part of the Gujarat Titans (GT) franchise. It was Hardik's first season as a captain in IPL and he led the Titans to a title win.
The all-rounder impressed one and all with his leadership skills. However, there was one incident in that tournament that drew him a lot of flak.
In one of the league matches, Hardik lost his calm and shouted at Shami when the latter committed a mistake on the field.
Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube podcast, Shami recalled Hardik’s outburst at him while also shedding light on his camaraderie with the former GT captain.
"I usually don't respond to such things, but when things get too bad, then I do speak up. We have a good connection and are friends. He didn't realize it at that moment. We've known each other for almost 10 years. He told me, 'I swear, I don't know what I've said.' Crores of people watch us on screen, we need to control our emotions," Shami said.
The star pacer also opened up his IPL journey with previous teams like Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings.
"Delhi didn't give me a chance, then I took 60 wickets for Punjab in three years, they did not retain me and gave me to Gujarat," he added.
With the mega-auction set to take place ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Shami is losing his sleep thinking whether the Titans will retain him or not.
"I have taken 48 wickets for Gujarat in two years, and if they don't retain me, what difference does it make? I will play with whichever team that picks me. If you want a performer, then keep me, if you want looks, find two or three models and bring them," he remarked.
Mohammad Shami underwent an operation on his Achilles tendon earlier this year. As a result, he missed the home Test series against England, followed by the IPL and the T20 World Cup.
Shami is likely to make a comeback in the home series against Bangladesh. India will host Bangladesh for two Tests and three T20 Internationals in September-October.
