Jaydev Unadkat schools journalist for misquoting his ‘car and flat’ comment in English county cricket for reach

Unadkat is set to join Sussex county in the ongoing championship tournament.

Jaydev Unadkat for Sussex | GettyIndia pacer Jaydev Unadkat was unhappy with an Indian journalist for blowing his simple comment out of proportion as he spoke about the facilities given to overseas players in the English county championship.

Jaydev Unadkat will play for Sussex County next month, having played a few games for the club last year. The left-arm fast bowler from Saurashtra says that playing county cricket has taught him a lot and he is “eagerly looking forward to another season of county cricket.”

All the county teams boast of rich legacy and have passionate supporters. Since the pitches and weather are so different in the UK as compared to what we get in India, you get to learn a lot as a cricketer, and it helps to enhance your skills. But apart from cricket too, county cricket teaches you a lot.

When we are playing in India, we have liaison officers who take care of everything. But while playing county cricket in the UK, while you are given a flat to stay in and a car to drive around, you have to take care of everything else on your own. From living on my own to making my breakfast and doing my laundry, staying there taught me to be self-dependent. It’s a different experience altogether and I enjoyed every bit of it. I like to cook and enjoy the process. While I can’t make the regular roti-sabji, I love to experiment in the kitchen and make some interesting dishes,” Unadkat told Times of India.

Unadkat also revealed that his wife will be accompanying him to the UK and will spend quality time with her sightseeing.

However, a journalist shared a piece of Unadkat’s interview on his profile on X, but instead of mentioning that the cricketer gets a flat and a car from the county club, he wrote, that Unadkat said that he gets only a car and a flat, rest of things he has to manage.

Jaydev Unadkat said "While playing county cricket in the UK, you have to take care of everything on your own. From living on my own to making my breakfast and doing my laundry, staying there taught me to be self-dependent. It’s a different experience altogether. You are only given a flat to stay in and a car to drive around,” journalist Himanshu Pareek posted on X.

The replies on this post trolled Unadkat for saying that only got a car and a flat by county and the cricketer then quoted this post and shared the actual thing he had said, rather than what the journo wrote.

The pacer also schooled the journo for trying to misquote him to get reach and likes on X.

Unadkat stated: “Hey @Sports_Himanshu, while you may already know but chose to ignore, there is a difference between you are ONLY given a car & a flat” (your statement) And “while playing in the UK, while you are given a flat & a car..” (my statement).

And to the people who are educating me over your tweet or your are trying to get max ‘reach’, try reading the actual article for once, to get a perspective. That will definitely help you understand the facts, if at all that’s on your priority list.

And by the way, I cook & do laundry at my home here too. And cricket is always a priority, no matter where I play. Cheers.”
