The former U19 captain of Sri Lanka, Dhammika Niroshana, was reportedly shot and killed on Tuesday night at his residence.

Niroshana was regarded as one of the best all-around pace bowlers to come out of Sri Lanka's youth system. It is said that during age-group cricket, he captained players like Farveez Maharoof, Angelo Mathews, Upul Tharanga, etc. He quit the sport when he was twenty years old.

Dhammika had retreated to his native of Ambalangoda and on Tuesday night, he was shot dead near his residence. The incident reportedly took place at Kanda Mawatha, the former cricket player's house in Ambalangoda. Numerous local media reports state that Niroshana, his wife, and their two children were at home when the tragedy occurred.

The Niroshana assassin is alleged to have used a 12-bore gun. As soon as they heard about the incident, the police responded, had a look at the body, and then left. There are currently no additional details available.

Between 2001 and 2004, Niroshana participated in eight List A matches and twelve first-class games for the Galle Cricket Club. Niroshana was a good all-around player who could score runs and take wickets with the bat and the ball. During his playing career, he amassed over 300 wickets.

He made his debut for Sri Lanka's U19 side in 2000 and also featured in a handful of under-19 Tests and ODI for two years.
