Former India players Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, and Suresh Raina have found themselves in hot soup after a police complaint was filed against them for mocking and insulting disabled people with their Instagram video.
After India Champions won the WCL 2024 title, defeating Pakistan in the final, captain Yuvraj Singh, spinner Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina, along with Gurkeerat Mann, made a funny reel on trending song “Tauba Tauba” on Instagram.
In the video, Harbhajan, Yuvraj, and Raina can be seen limping and holding their backs while grooving to the song. The caption of the video read: “Body ki Tauba Tauba ho Gayi in 15 days legends cricket. Every part of the body is sore. Straight competition to our brothers @vickykaushal09 @karanaujla our version of Tauba Tauba dance, What a SONG."
However, para badminton player Manasi Joshi slammed the cricketers for mocking disabled people which led to Harbhajan Singh apologizing for the video and saying that it was just a way to show how a cricketer’s body feels after playing cricket at this age.
But now things have escalated as Arman Ali, the Executive Director of the National Council for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), has filed a complaint against the trio for ‘insulting’ and ‘making fun’ of ‘more than 10 crore’ disabled people of India.
The complaint has been filed with the Amar Colony police station in New Delhi against Instagram (owned by Meta) for violating the Information Technology Act.
“When I saw the video of Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, and Suresh Raina where they were pretending like disabled, kind of mockery on a viral song, I think it’s an insult to more than 10 crore disabled people of India.
Harbhajan Singh is an MP, and he should raise his voice for the disabled, but what kind of video he is making?… In India, there is an acute lack of awareness concerning disabilities. You are spreading myth and making fun of them and that’s why I have filed a complaint,” Ali was quoted by News18.com.
