Shaheen Afridi could be in big trouble, accused of misbehaving and lobbying by Pakistan coaches: Report

Shaheen might have to face consequences for his actions if the reports are true.

Shaheen Afridi | GettyPakistan cricket and controversy go hand in hand. The Men in Green suffered a shocking first-round exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 last month, and a lot of negative news is coming out of the camp since then.

As per the latest report, star pacer Shaheen Afridi has been accused of bad behaviour by the current coaching staff, which features Gary Kirsten and Azhar Mahmood.

Head coach Kirsten had submitted a report to the PCB in the wake of the T20 World Cup debacle, where Shaheen’s string of poor behaviour was mentioned, Samaa News reported.

According to the report, “Shaheen Afridi from the Ireland T20I series, England T20I series and the T20 World Cup 2024, has been accused of bad behaviour by Gary Kirsten and Azhar Mahmood. No action was taken against the pacer and he continued to misbehave and has also been accused of lobbying”.

The news will certainly upset the Pakistan cricket fans as the left-arm quick is an integral part of the team and he might have to face consequences for his actions if the reports are true.

The PCB is yet to make any official announcement regarding the same. On Wednesday (July 10), the board issued a statement to confirm the termination of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq within the national selection committee setup.

Notably, Shaheen Afridi was appointed Pakistan’s T20I captain after Babar Azam stepped down from the role post the 2023 World Cup debacle.

Under Shaheen, Pakistan suffered a 4-1 defeat on the T20I tour of New Zealand earlier this year and Babar was reinstated in the role that did not result in a turn of fortunes.
