Gautam Gambhir was officially appointed the new Team India head coach on July 7, 2024, by the BCCI. He will take over from Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended with the T20 World Cup 2024 win.

The first assignment for Gautam Gambhir will be the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka later this month, where India will play 3 ODIs and as many T20Is.

Now as per the report, Gautam Gambhir has not yet signed the contract with the BCCI as the talks for the salary are still ongoing. BCCI is yet to finalize Gambhir’s contract and it is been said that his salary will be at par with that of Rahul Dravid.

"For Gautam, he needed to take charge, and salary and other stuff can be worked out as it's not going anywhere. It is similar to the case of Ravi Shastri in 2014 when he was first made Director of Cricket over head coach Duncan Fletcher. The day Ravi joined, he didn't even have a contract and things worked out. In the case of Gautam also, some finer details are being worked out. The salary will be in the same range as Rahul Dravid," a BCCI source told PTI.

Gautam Gambhir has also conveyed to the BCCI his choices for the assistant coach and the bowling coach. Gambhir has suggested Abhishek Nayar for the assistant coach role, while he recommended R Vinay Kumar for the bowling coach position.

However, the report stated that the BCCI is looking at Zaheer Khan or L Balaji as options for the bowling coach role.

As far as the fielding coach's role is concerned, Jonty Rhodes' name seems to have cropped up again, but BCCI has always preferred one of its home-grown talents in the set-up.
