Former India wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni has left a massive impact on the game with his leadership. He is the only skipper in the history of cricket to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies – 2007 World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy.

Under Dhoni’s captaincy, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin among others unleased their potential at the highest level and went on to establish themselves as the superstars of Indian cricket.

As he turned 43 on Sunday (July 7), ex-India opener Gautam Gambhir paid a rich tribute to Dhoni, calling him the ‘probably the best captain’ produced by the country.

"Lots of captains will come and go but it will be hard to match MS Dhoni's record for the Indian team. You can become number 1 in Tests, you can win overseas matches. But to lift two ICC World Cups and one Champions Trophy, there is no bigger achievement than this," Gambhir said in a video shared by Star Sports on X.

"We shared the biggest moments together, I was part of those moments. Whether being a part of the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, winning the CB series in Australia, winning Test series in New Zealand, drawing Test series in South Africa, winning the Asia Cup, I can't mention one. He's probably the best captain India has ever had," he added.

While MS Dhoni has retired from international cricket in 2020, he continues to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He captained CSK to as many as five IPL and two Champions League T20 (CLT20) titles.

Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain, handing over the leadership baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, it is still not clear whether he will appear in the cash-rich league next year or not.
