Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor has reportedly shot his farewell video at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This comes after it was revealed that the BCCI will shortly announce the successor to Rahul Dravid as the Team India coach.
Several media reports have claimed that Gautam Gambhir will be the next man in charge and the former cricketer remained tight-lipped about the same. Before Gambhir or the BCCI made any official announcement, reports indicated that the KKR mentor had bid goodbye to the franchise.
As per the Times Now report, Gambhir, a 2-time IPL winning KKR captain, visited the Eden Garden on Friday to shoot a video bidding goodbye to the franchise and the fans. The video supposedly focuses on Gambhir’s journey with the KKR franchise.
The report contained a quote from an official from the Cricket Association of Bengal, confirming the former India opener’s presence at the Eden Gardens on July 5.
“It was a low-key affair, but Gambhir wanted to bid goodbye to his fans with a message and that is why they shot a video at the Eden,” the official told Times Now.
Gambhir won the IPL with KKR in 2012 and 2014. He then returned to the franchise in 2024 as a mentor and helped them win their third title under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.
On Monday, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the Indian cricket team will have a new head coach from the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka starting later this month.
