Legendary South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes, considered as one of the best fielders ever is tipped to join the Indian team as its fielding coach. He is expected to join the new coaching staff under Gautam Gambhir.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India head coach will end after the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 and Gautam Gambhir is reportedly BCCI’s first choice to take over from Dravid.
The head coach typically selects their assistants. Ravi Shastri had R Sridhar as the fielding coach and B Arun as the bowling coach with Sanjay Bangar and Vikram Rathour as batting coaches. When Rahul Dravid took over, Rathour retained his place as batting coach, while T Dilip became the fielding coach and Paras Mhambrey became the bowling coach.
As per the RevSportz report, Jonty Rhodes is being considered for the position in India's new management. Although the former Proteas cricketer hasn't received a formal approach yet, his name is among those being discussed, according to the report.
Rhodes previously applied for the role of India's fielding coach in 2019 but was not shortlisted.
Meanwhile, Jonty Rhodes and Gautam Gambhir worked together for two years in IPL for the Lucknow Super Giants. And the report stated that the BCCI officials have started conversations with Gautam Gambhir about Jonty Rhodes joining the Indian coaching setup.
