There is a lot of buzz around the India versus Pakistan clash in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The arch-rivals are slated to square off on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on the outskirts of New York, USA.
Ahead of the marquee clash, former India cricketer Suresh Raina has given a befitting reply to a Pakistan journalist who mocked him saying that while Shahid Afridi is an ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2024, he is not.
In his response, Raina reminded the journo of an old wound from the 2011 World Cup. "I'm not an ICC ambassador, but I have the 2011 World Cup at my house. Remember the game at Mohali? Hope it brings back some unforgettable memories for you," Raina tweeted before deleting his post.
Days later, former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi spoke about the deleted post on his YouTube channel, revealing that he had a conversation about it with Suresh Raina and everything is fine between them.
"Suresh Raina and I have shared many cricketing moments, and he's a good person," Afridi said.
"Sometimes, lighthearted banter happens. After seeing his post on social media, I spoke with him, and he understood the situation like a younger brother. He agreed to delete the tweet. It's all good; these things happen. Great individuals acknowledge and rectify their mistakes," he added.
During the recently concluded IPL 2024 season, Suresh Raina also took a hilarious dig at Shahid Afridi when asked if he would think about coming out of retirement.
While being engaged in his Hindi commentary duties on Jio Cinema, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra asked Raina if he had any plans to revoke his retirement, given he is still just 37 years old.
To which, Raina replied: "Suresh Raina hu, Shahid Afridi nahi" (I am Suresh Raina, not Shahid Afridi),” referring to Afridi's multiple retirements. His comments left the commentary box in splits.
Shahid Afridi recently joined an illustrious group of T20 World Cup ambassadors, including Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle and the legendary sprinter Usain Bolt.
