Former Sri Lanka cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne met with a horrific car accident on March 14, 2024. The incident happened in the Thirapanne locality in Anuradhapura.

Photos of the accident have gone viral on social media, which shows remains of a mangled car and Thirimanne in an ambulance, having suffered minor injuries.

The car collided with a lorry leading to severe damage to the vehicle. However, Thirimanne walked away without any serious injury to any major body part, this gave a huge relief to his family and well-wishers.

Having retired from cricket in 2022, the 34-year-old has been away from the game, and not much is known about him.

Meanwhile, the New York Strikers franchise of the Legends Cricket Trophy 2024 assured that Thirimanne is safe.

“We wish to inform you that Lahiru Thirimanne and his family were involved in a small car accident while visiting the temple. Thankfully, they have been admitted to the hospital for observation.

Fortunately, following a thorough medical assessment, we can confirm that they are all safe and sound, with no cause for concern. We appreciate the outpouring of concern and support from everyone during this time. We kindly request respect for their privacy as they recover,” The New York Strikers franchise said in a statement.

Thirimanne played 44 Tests, 127 ODIs and 26 T20I for Sri Lanka from 2010-2022.
