Dinesh Karthik set to retire from IPL after 2024 season; contemplates international retirement as well

Karthik has represented India in 26 Tests, 94 ODIs and 60 T20Is.

Dinesh Karthik | BCCI-IPLVeteran India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik is all set to make his last IPL appearance in the 2024 edition, slated to get underway on March 22.

Karthik, who has represented India in 26 Tests, 94 ODIs and 60 T20Is, will take a call on his international retirement after the lucrative T20 tournament.

The 38-year-old holds a unique record in the IPL, having participated in every season since its inception in 2008. He is currently contracted with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

"This 2024 edition will be his (Dinesh Karthik's) last IPL. He will decide his international retirement after the IPL," a BCCI source told news agency PTI.

Dinesh Karthik’s IPL journey includes stints with six different franchises, showcasing his adaptability and commitment. Starting with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), he later played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Mumbai Indians, now-defunct Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In his 16 seasons so far, Karthik has missed only two IPL matches, highlighting his unwavering dedication to the league. During this period, he scored 4516 runs in 240 matches at a strike rate of 132.71 with 20 half-centuries.

Karthik also made a mark while playing for India, considering his peak clashed with that of the legendary MS Dhoni as a wicketkeeper-batter. In international cricket, he has amassed 3463 runs across formats, which includes one hundred and 17 half-centuries.

Karthik's last match for India was a T20I against Bangladesh in November 2022 at the Adelaide Oval.
