India pacer Mohammad Shami has successfully undergone surgery on his heel in the UK, as per BCCI statement. Shami had been out of action since the World Cup 2023 and missed quite a few matches for the Indian team.
The BCCI confirmed the news of Shami’s successful surgery while announcing the India squad for the fifth and final Test against England which will be played in Dharamshala on March 7.
The BCCI also stated that Shami is recovering well and will report to the NCA in Bengaluru to begin his rehab process.
“Mohd. Shami successfully underwent a surgery on 26th February 2024 for his right heel problem. He is recovering well and will soon head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to commence his rehabilitation process” BCCI stated.
Shami had a World Cup to remember, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 24 scalps in just seven matches. He averaged 10.70 with the ball and had a strike rate of 12.20. The right-arm pacer played the tournament with pain-killing injections during the World Cup and has not stepped on the cricket field for India since.
Shami confirmed a successful heel surgery on February 27 by posting on the social media platform ‘X’.
“Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami posted.
However, the star pacer will miss the IPL 2024 for his franchise Gujarat Titans. He had picked 28 wickets in 17 matches for GT in IPL 2023 and won the Purple Cap. It remains to be seen whether Shami will be fit for the T20 World Cup 2024 also.
