‘Fight with Gautam Gambhir in KKR dressing room affected my bank balance’- Manoj Tiwary

Tiwary also talked about what went wrong during his time in Delhi Capitals in IPL 2014.

Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwary for KKR | XEver since he announced his retirement from cricket, Bengal legend Manoj Tiwary has been making surprising revelations from his playing days. This includes his multiple spats with fellow cricketers and teammates.

Days after stating that he would like to hear from MS Dhoni on why he was dropped from the Indian team, Tiwary has claimed that he would have had a much bigger bank balance had he not fought with former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir.

Manoj Tiwary was part of the KKR franchise beginning from the 2010 IPL season till IPL 2013. Gautam Gambhir joined the franchise in IPL 2011 as captain and Tiwary was part of the KKR side that won the IPL trophy in 2012.

And now, Tiwary has revealed that he had a big fight with Gambhir behind the scenes, which resulted in KKR releasing him from the team ahead of their 2014 campaign. He further claimed that he would have earned a lot more money in his career had he stayed at KKR for the next two or three seasons.

During my time at KKR, I had a big fight with Gambhir in the dressing room. That never came to light. KKR became the champion in 2012. At that time, I managed to hit four, so the team won. I got a chance to play for KKR one more year. Had I not fought with Gambhir in 2013, maybe I would have played for another two to three years. That means the amount I was supposed to get as per the contract would have gone up. The bank balance would be strengthened. But I never thought about that," Manoj Tiwary told Anandabazar Patrika.

"The fight I had with Gambhir that day is the only regret I have"- Manoj Tiwary says it spoiled his image

Tiwary was then picked by Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) in the IPL 2014 auction. On the other hand, KKR won their second IPL title that season.

Meanwhile, Tiwary revealed that there was a miscommunication between him and the Delhi franchise team, which originated from his frustration.

Gary Kirsten was the coach when I played for Delhi Capitals. I was seeing in front of my eyes in one match after another that the first eleven was not going well. The combination is not correct. Eligible cricketers were not getting a chance to play. Many were out due to injuries. The results of the team were not good. I went straight and said, leave me if you can't put me in the XI. My contract then was 2.8 crore. I never thought that if I said this, they would misunderstand me and leave me. Never thought of my loss,” Tiwary concluded on the matter.
