Virat Kohli latest victim of deepfake AI; clip of him promoting gambling app surfaces online

Earlier a deepfake video of Sachin Tendulkar promoting similar apps had gone viral.

Virat Kohli's deepfake AI videoAce India batter Virat Kohli has become the latest victim of the menace of deepfake AI videos, as clips of him allegedly promoting gambling and betting apps have gone viral on social media.

The video on social media also shows a deepfake of Aaj Tak anchor Anjana Om Kashyap introducing the gambling and betting app featuring Virat Kohli and then Kohli is seen talking about the benefits of using the app and how people can get rewarded in no time.

What was astonishing is the fact that the fake video didn't just successfully copy Virat's face but also his voice.

A few weeks ago, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar calls for tough actions to be taken after a fake video of him promoting a betting app went viral.

Earlier, called for social media reforms to be brought in to alert people of such deepfake videos. And the Indian government is reportedly working on new regulations that may impose penalties on both creator and platform hosting deepfakes as it looks to clamp down on what IT and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav described as "a threat to democracy".
