“Problem with clickbait journalism” - Harsha Bhogle reacts to his viral Virat Kohli-RCB video; posts unedited clip

Bhogle was explaining how sometimes Kohli's batting hinders RCB.

Virat Kohli | BCCI-IPLNoted journalist Harsha Bhogle reacted to the viral clip of his making rounds on the internet in which he talks about Virat Kohli and how his batting sometimes hinders his IPL franchise, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The demands of modern-day cricket often take a toll on a player but for Virat Kohli, it's his fitness that has helped him continue to perform in the times of T20 cricket overflow. Kohli will be seen in action for the RCB in the upcoming IPL 2024.

He had to miss the entire England Test series at home due to personal reasons, but the IPL 2024 will be a chance for the masterful batter to showcase his expertise ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

The viral video, which has caused Harsha Bhogle to react in anger, shows him explaining how it could be beneficial for a franchise like Royal Challengers Bangalore to have Kohli dismissed as someone else can score at a faster strike rate.

"Virat Kohli is a great example. Virat Kohli is playing Test cricket for India and he isn't supposed to get out. Now, he goes to play for RCB, for India; beyond a certain point, it might actually been the interest of the side for him to get out. How do you reconcile to the fact that I am one of the greatest who have played the game but actually at this stage, it's in the team's interest that I get out because the person who is coming in will probably hit 20 of 6 balls. Virat Kohli is an extreme example," Harsha Bhogle said while speaking at SHRM India Talent Leadership Summit & Expo 2024 in Mumbai.

However, Harshal Bhogle was both incensed and disappointed at a clipped and edited video being shared on social media.

"This is an example of what I was talking about with social media. The video is cropped just before the point where I say that Virat is capable of playing across situations but that I was only highlighting how even the greatest players have to keep adjusting demands and priorities. Come on @PTI_News I am sure you can do better. With selectively edited reporting, nobody will be able to articulate thoughts again. Can you put out the whole clip please?" Bhogle quoted their viral video of his.

Furthermore, he shared the entire unedited video and slammed how clickbait journalism is the problem here.

Now this is how a malicious edit can be done. The clip that @PTI_News posted was cut at 0:41 on this edit. The next 6 seconds were kept out to change the meaning. This is the problem with clickbait journalism. The context here is that this is part of a larger discussion in an HR forum (that conversation is much longer) about how T20 is measured very differently and therefore how different metrics are needed to measure talent in different situations,” he shared the original video.
