Ishan Kishan last played any cricket for India was in Australia T20Is at home last year | GettyIndia and Jharkhand batter-keeper Ishan Kishan is likely to skip the final round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 and as per the report, will make his comeback to cricket with the DY Patil T20 tournament in Navi Mumbai.

This report from Dainik Bhaskar comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) advised centrally contracted players to participate in the Ranji Trophy.

Kishan has been out of action since Australia T20Is at home. He was part of the India T20I and Test squad for the South Africa tour, but was benched in the T20Is and then left the tour midway after being granted a mental health break by the BCCI.

Since then, he missed the Afghanistan T20Is at home and was not considered for the ongoing England Test series. The BCCI and Indian team management were not clear about his availability and head coach Rahul Dravid was categorical in his appeal that Kishan would only be considered for selection upon resuming competitive cricket.

BCCI orders players to participate in next round of Ranji Trophy matches: Report

Despite the coach and the board’s directions for him to play Ranji Trophy to be considered for the Indian team, Kishan has not cleared the air about his availability. Later reports stated that Kishan had been training with Hardik and Krunal Pandya in Baroda to prepare for the IPL 2024.

Recent reports have stated that the BCCI has mandated all its players to play for their state teams in the Ranji Trophy. This mandate applies not only to Ishan Kishan but to all players who are not part of the India squad at the moment including Krunal Pandya, Deepak Chahar, and even Shreyas Iyer.

"Players cannot simply prioritize international cricket or the IPL. They must make themselves available for domestic cricket and honor their commitments to their respective state teams," a BCCI source was quoted by Cricbuzz.

It remains to be seen whether Ishan Kishan plays for Jharkhand in the final round of the Ranji Trophy or sticks to making his comeback in the DY Patil tournament.
