The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suffered a major setback as Zaka Ashraf decided to step down as chairman of the board. Ashraf made this announcement after the fourth meeting of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), which oversees the PCB, on Friday, January 19.
The meeting took place at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, where Ashraf expressed his gratitude to PCB members and Patron Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar for their support during his brief tenure.
It's worth noting that Ashraf assumed the role of PCB chairman in June 2023, and his resignation came a few weeks before his latest term as head of the PCB was set to conclude in early February.
Zaka Ashraf said in an official statement released by the PCB: “At the end of the meeting, Mr Zaka Ashraf announced that he had decided to tender his resignation as chairman and member of the MC to the honourable Patron Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.”
The former chief added, “In his concluding remarks, Mr Zaka Ashraf, thanked the honourable Patron PCB for the confidence and trust reposed by him and extended his best wishes and prayers for the betterment of Pakistan and Pakistan cricket.”
Meanwhile, Ashraf seems to be not happy with the way things are going in the Pakistan cricket and that’s why he decided to part ways with the PCB even before the end of his tenure.
He was quoted as saying by Geo News: “I was working for the betterment of cricket but it is not possible for us to work in this way. Now it is up to Prime Minister [Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar], whomever he nominates [will take my place].”
Notably, Ashraf submitted his resignation a day after Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick quit their respective positions at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.
