“News to me” - Jonty Rhodes reacts to Sri Lanka board announcing him as fielding consultant

Apart from Rhodes, Bharat Arun and Alex Kountouris were also announced as new appointments.

Jonty Rhodes | XJonty Rhodes, legendary South African cricketer, has expressed shock at being named as fielding consultant in an announcement by the Sri Lanka cricket board via an official statement.

Sri Lanka cricket on Thursday said that they had roped in the services of Bharat Arun, former India bowling coach, and former Sri Lanka National Team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris alongside Rhodes in a bid to provide advanced training for local coaches, trainers, and physiotherapists to enhance their skills and competencies by conducting periodic training programs in selected areas.

"Sri Lanka Cricket decided to obtain the services of some of the best-known talents in international cricket to provide advanced training for local coaches, trainers, and physiotherapists to enhance their skills and competencies by conducting periodic training programs in selected areas.

Towards this, the Executive Committee decided to obtain the services of former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes, who is a specialist fielding coach—former India National Team fast bowling coach Bharat Arun—and former Sri Lanka National Team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris," a release by the board stated.

However, the South African legend Jonty Rhodes has admitted that he has no knowledge of being contacted by SLC and denied his appointment. Rhodes responded to a tweet on X that had stated that the South African legend was being appointed by Sri Lanka cricket as a fielding consultant.

"Hmmmm @ThePapareSports this is news to me #checkyourfacts," tweeted Rhodes.

When the page responded to Rhodes with the official release, the South African legend continued to express his amazement and shock.
