Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt shared insights into the challenges Shubman Gill is facing to cement his place in India’s T20I team despite being a talented batter.
The right-handed batter has been struggling to secure a permanent spot on the Indian cricket team in the T20Is, thanks to his inconsistent performances with the bat.
However, Gill made a quickfire 23 runs off 12 balls in the first T20I, but he was dropped for returning opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the next game against Afghanistan, with Virat Kohli also returning to the side.

Well, there's been scrutiny of Gill's form and position in T20Is, and Butt said that the young batter hasn't lived up to his potential recently and advised him to be patient and avoid the rash shots.
Salman Butt said on his YouTube channel: “I think Shubman Gill has done an injustice to his talent in the last few games. He is too good a player and has too much skill for the kind of hurry that he has been showing. He scores 20-odd and then plays a loose shot.”
Butt added, “He needs to realize that even if you are the best batter in the world, you can’t play every ball on your own terms. You have to react to the ball instead of dictating it.”
The third T20I between India and Afghanistan will be played on January 17 in Bengaluru.
