Prasidh Krishna sustains quadriceps injury during Karnataka's Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat

Prasidh hobbled off the field after bowling 14.5 overs on Day 1 of the Ranji match in Ahmedabad.

Prasidh Krishna | GettyPrasidh Krishna sustained a left quadriceps injury on Day 1 of Karnataka's Ranji Trophy 2023-24 match against Gujarat in Ahmedabad on Friday (January 13).

As a result, the right-arm pacer was left out of the India squad for the first two matches of the upcoming five-Test series against England, PTI reported.

Prasidh hobbled off the field after bowling 14.5 overs, during which he claimed the scalps of Manan Hingrajia and Siddharth Desai as Karnataka bundled out Gujarat for 264.

According to the report, Prasidh won’t take any further part in the match. The quadriceps injury usually takes between four and six weeks to heal.

The Karnataka team physio is currently looking after Prasidh Krishna. Since the fast bowler is a BCCI-contracted player, he can also link up with the India A support staff, who are also in Ahmedabad for a two-day match against the England Lions.

After being out of action for almost a year due to a lumbar stress fracture, Prasidh made his India comeback during the T20I tour of Ireland in August 2023. He made his Test debut during the recently held South Africa but failed to make a mark, returning with two wickets from as many matches at an average of 65.

With Mohammad Shami yet to recover from an ankle injury, India’s squad for the first two Tests against England features Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan as the premier pacers.

Hyderabad will host the opening Test from January 25, while the second Test is due to be held in Visakhapatnam from February 2. The two teams will then move to Rajkot (February 15-19), Ranchi (February 23-27) and Dharamsala (March 7-11) for the third, fourth and fifth Tests respectively.
