India’s star batter, Suryakumar Yadav, shared a positive update on his recovery from an ankle injury that he sustained during the final match of the T20I series against South Africa in December, where he led India in the three-match series which ended shared 1-1.
Suryakumar posted a couple of short videos on Instagram, where he can be seen doing light practice in the nets. The star batter took the 'baby steps' towards an onfield return by hitting a few balls in the nets.
However, the right-handed batter also mentioned that he's not fully recovered yet. Suryakumar missed the ongoing three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home due to injury. He will also be unavailable for India's selection for the five-match Test series against England.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar has also been reportedly diagnosed with sports hernia and is likely to undergo surgery in Germany which will further rule him out for a period of time.
A source in the BCCI told Times of India: “SKY was recently diagnosed with sports hernia. He is currently recuperating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In two-three days, he will fly for Munich, Germany, to get operated for it.”
Notably, Suryakumar alongside Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza, Ugandan sensation Alpesh Ramjani and New Zealand’s Mark Chapman have been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year Award for 2023.
