This first came to notice when the DJ during the India v South Africa ODI series, played the ‘Ram Siya Ram’ song when Maharaj came to bat and the tradition continued in the recent Test series between South Africa and India.

Recently, during the second Test match between India and South Africa in Cape Town, the devotional tune filled the air as Maharaj came out to bat on the opening day. India cricketer Virat Kohli was seen making the motion of a bow and arrow and folded his hands in a namaste.

This delightful interaction between the Indian maestro and Maharaj resonated widely across social media, capturing a charming moment on the field.

 

"That is my entrance song. I am a devotee of Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram so I think it is a fitting song,” Maharaj was quoted as saying by ANI.

The Test series ended in a 1-1 draw as South Africa clinched the first Test while India bounced back to take away an emphatic victory. Maharaj stated that the Indian team always poses a good challenge, which led to an exciting series.

“India is always a fierce opponent and if you want to be the best in the world you have to test yourself against the best in the world so it was a really good challenge and a really exciting series," Maharaj added.

After the Cape Town match ended, Virat Kohli gifted Maharaj his 18-numbered India Test jersey. Maharaj took to his official Instagram account and shared the picture of him receiving the former India skipper's 'number 18' jersey.
