Sanath Jayasuriya named cricket consultant by Sri Lanka Cricket for one year

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) revealed on Thursday, December 14, that they have appointed former captain Sanath Jayasuriya as the full-time cricket consultant for the national team.

Jayasuriya has been signed as the Sri Lanka cricket team’s consultant fof 12 months by the SLC, and this decision was made to promote the overall development of cricket in the country.

The appointment of Jayasuriya came after the revamp of Sri Lanka’s national selection panel, where former opener Upul Tharanga was named the new chief selector. These changes in coaching and selection show SLC's strategic efforts to improve the overall cricket performance of the team.

The SLC said in a media release: “Under this role, Jayasuriya will be responsible for ensuring that SLC nationaprogramses achieve an optimum level of professionalism and that all players and coaching staff are monitoretoto deliver excellence.”

The release added: “Accordingly, he will oversee the trainingand , coaching requirements of all teams aligned with the high-performance center. He will also establish national specialist skillprogramses with key staff aligned to lead roles within each skill discipline, among several other tasks.”

Notably, Jayasuriya will start his new role as the cricket consultant immediately, working from the High-Performance Center at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. His involvement is a key part of Sri Lanka's larger effort trevitalizese their cricketing fortunes.
