Cricket Australia (CA) has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to reschedule the two-match Test series, which was originally slated for the 2027 season.
As per the current Future Tour Program, Bangladesh is set to travel to Australia in March 2027 to play a Test series. However, CA now wants to shift the Test series between Australia and Bangladesh from March 2027 to August–September 2026.
The reason is that Australia wants to host two Test matches in Melbourne, with one of them being a special 150th anniversary Test against England during the summer of 2026–27. And CA's aspiration to do so has forced them to request the BCB reschedule their Test series.
Apart from this, CA is also considering an extension of the three-match Test series against New Zealand, which is slated to take place before the Test series against Bangladesh.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz: “They (CA) have requested us to reschedule it (tour for Test series in 2027) but it is still under discussion. They have got a plan to celebrate their 150-year anniversary and that is a national commitment and due to that they want to reschedule the Test series against us and working on that.”
Notably, Bangladesh has so far played only two Test matches in Australia since getting Test status in 2000. However, Bangladesh was to tour Australia in 2018 for 2 Tests and 3 ODIs series, but the tour got canceled due to broadcasters showing little interest in the series.
Bangladesh was also scheduled to host Australia in 2020 but that series was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
