It’s been almost a decade since the legendary names of Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag feature in a BCCI tournament scorecard.
However, the three-day clash between Karnataka and Delhi in the Vijay Merchant Trophy National U-16 boys' tourney, which got underway on December 11, included a Dravid and a Sehwag.
Karnataka U-16 skipper Anvay Dravid and Delhi opener Aryavir Sehwag competed with each other for their respective state teams.
According to a PTI report, Dravid junior got out for a duck on Day 1 whereas junior Sehwag stayed unbeaten on 50.
Anvay, the younger son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, is also the team's wicketkeeper while Sehwag's elder son is known for his aggressive batting style just like his father.
Coming to the ongoing U-16 match, Karnataka were bowled out for 144 in 56.3 overs at the Andhra Cricket Association Stadium in Mangalagiri.
Anvay, who came out to bat at No. 5, was cleaned up by Delhi's most successful bowler Ayush Lakra. He managed to face only two deliveries.
In reply, Delhi scored 107/1 in 30 overs at the close of play on Day 1, with Aryavir hitting seven fours and a six in his unbeaten 50 off 98 balls.
While this is Aryavir's second season in U-16, he didn't get a chance to play any matches during last year as he warmed the bench as a travelling squad member.
