The BCCI doesn't seem to prefer pink-ball, day-night Test matches much, as there are no such Tests scheduled for India's upcoming home season this time for both the men’s and women’s teams.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah told the reporters during the WPL 2024 auction that they are not currently in favor of pink-ball tests because these matches often finish "inside two-three days" instead of lasting for four to five days.
Notably, the Indian men's cricket team has so far played only four pink-ball tests, winning three and losing one. The most recent was against Sri Lanka at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, which was wrapped up in just three days.
On the other hand, the Indian women's team had their only pink-ball test against Australia, which ended in a draw in Queensland in 2021.
As reported by the Times of India, Jay Shah stated: “We will have to increase the amount of interest in the public for the pink-ball Test. If you recall, the (pink-ball) Tests ended in two or three days. Everyone wants to watch a Test match lasting four to five days.”
He added, “Once they get more used to it, we will do more pink-ball Tests. The last time it was done in Australia, no one has done it since then. We were in talks with England, but we will do it gradually.”
Meanwhile, England's Men's Physical Disability team will be touring India in January-February for a five-match T20s series. The matches will be played in Ahmedabad and Udaipur from January 24-February 7 and Shah said that the BCCI will support them in every possible way.
He signed off by saying, “We will one hundred percent support them, it is our initiative so we will support them in whatever they may need. A lot of companies do CSR to help (for them) but whatever help they need from the BCCI, they are most welcome.”
