Australia’s World Cup 2023 hero Travis Head has been named the ICC Player of the Month award for November 2023. He beat out tough competition from teammate Glenn Maxwell and India seamer Mohammed Shami to take the honor home.
Travis Head had an excellent outing in ICC World Cup 2023, despite missing the first half of the tournament as he recovered from a broken hand. But once he came back into the playing XI, Head made an immediate impact with a century against New Zealand in Dharamshala.
He went on to score 62 in a low-scoring thriller against South Africa in the semi-final of the World Cup in Kolkata and then hammered a match-winning 137 against India in the final in Ahmedabad. He joined a select list of players to win Player of the Match awards in both semi-final and final of a Cricket World Cup.
The 29-year-old paid tribute to his teammates for their help in his journey over the last year.

“It’s been an incredible 12 months for the team which it has been a real privilege to be a part of. The way we have navigated a home summer, away trips to India, England, South Africa, India, and the World Cup has been a great credit to Pat, the players, and the staff.
I was fortunate that they kept the faith in me for the World Cup after breaking my hand, so it was a great opportunity for me to pay them back. I felt the World Cup was amongst the best I have ever batted, so maybe having a rest before every campaign is the key,” Head was quoted by ICC.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized with this award, but it is a team effort. Without my team-mates across all formats, this wouldn’t have happened; so these types of awards are as much for them as they are for me,” he added.
Head is only the second Australia Men's player to take the award after David Warner, who won it in November 2021.
