Dravid's second stint as head coach will kick off with India's tour of South Africa.

Rahul Dravid | GettyRahul Dravid will continue to serve the senior Indian men’s cricket team as head coach, the BCCI confirmed on November 29.

Dravid’s two-year contract as chief coach came to an end with the conclusion of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 last week.

After the World Cup campaign, it was widely reported that Dravid was not keen on extending his contract due to the hectic schedule of the national team but he agreed to take up the role on BCCI's request.

In a media release, the Indian board announced the extension of contracts for Dravid and other support staff members. However, it didn’t mention the duration of their contracts.

Almost two weeks later, BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Saturday (December 9) a call on the duration of Dravid’s tenure will be taken once the Indian team returns from South Africa.

“Length of Rahul Dravid's tenure as India head coach to be decided after team returns from South Africa,” Jay Shah said while speaking to reporters in Mumbai.

Dravid's second stint as head coach will kick off with India's tour of South Africa, comprising three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests. The all-format tour will be played from December 10 to January 7.

During his first tenure, Rahul Dravid guided the Indian team to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 and the final of the World Test Championship and Cricket World Cup. India won the Asia Cup 2023 with him at the helm of affairs.
