Australian opener David Warner is set to bid farewell to red-ball cricket after the upcoming three-match Test series against Pakistan, starting on December 14 in Perth.

It will leave Australia in search of a worthy replacement, and former England cricketer Michael Vaughan is placing his bets on Mitchell Marsh to step into the shoes left vacant by Warner.

Vaughan expressed confidence in Marsh's ability to fill the void left by Warner as opener in the Australian batting line-up, as Cameron Bancroft and Matt Renshaw were unable to cement their place as openers in the Australian Test team.

Marsh, known for his aggressive middle-order play, has never opened in Test cricket, but his prowess in the top-order in white-ball formats can help him make a seamless transition into Test cricket.

Michael Vaughan told Fox Cricket: “I would honestly look at someone like Mitchell Marsh to open the batting because it gets him in the team. he’s a right-hander and he might go down the aggressive route. Everyone else who has been here opening the batting for Australia in the last few series has struggled, so why not try something a bit different?”

However, the former Australian pacer Brett Lee has not liked Vaughan’s suggestion and said that he was against the idea of promoting a middle-order batter in Test cricket.

Lee explained reason behind his resistance, “I think when it comes to Test cricket though, I’d probably rather see a specialist in that area, especially if the ball is nipping around.”

He concluded, “If you’re not used to the red ball nipping around, seaming around, if you’ve never done that as a job that’s the only thing that scares me. I’m not saying it can’t be done, of course.”
