Former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff is set to become a part of England's backroom staff for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies.
Flintoff is known for his crucial role in England's 2005 Ashes victory, where his all-round performances earned him cult hero status. He has now taken on the role of head coach for the Northern Superchargers men's side in The Hundred.
Flintoff is gradually stepping back into the public eye following his horrific accident. He has even spent some time with the England team as a mentor, but not officially.
Meanwhile, the former England all-rounder is not part of England's set-up for the ODI series against the West Indies, but he is expected to join the team in Barbados later this week for the T20I series, asreportedd by Sky Sports.
Well, England captain Jos Buttler described Flintoff's presence at the side as "great" during the ODI series against New Zealand in September. Buttler noted that Flintoff had "settled in really well" with the group.
Jos Buttler was quoted as saying by Skysports: “He's been starting to do some stuff in cricket. It's just great for him to be around, he's an England legend and it's just nice to have him around the group.”
He added, “He's not been brought in with any specific role, just to be around and observe. A few of the lads can pick his brains a little bit and he's settled in really well. It's great to have him with us.”
Meanwhile, England all-rounder Liam Livingstone said it's incredible to have Flintoff around the team.
He added, “He's been one of my heroes growing up. To have someone of his experience lingering around the dressing room is great for all the lads.”
Livingstone signed off by saying, “When you see someone like Fred around, it's always good to chat. Especially while you're batting: there ares three and a half hours to pick the brains of someone who's been there and done it. He's probably a national hero, everybody loves that Fred's joining us and I'm sure he'll enjoy it as much himself.”
