“Hang tight for another day,” Ashwin’s message to people of Chennai amid mayhem caused by Cyclone Michaung

At least eight people have lost their lives due to Cyclone Michaung.

R Ashwin | GettyAt least eight people have lost their lives in several rain-related incidents in Chennai following heavy rainfall and gusty winds in the city triggered by Cyclone Michaung on Monday (December 4).

Flight operations at Chennai airport were affected as runway was flooded, several flights were cancelled and others diverted keeping the Cyclone Michaung in mind.

Relentless rain led to severe waterlogging and due to the increase of water levels, a mugger crocodile was spotted on the road.

While rain has stopped in Chennai on Tuesday (December 5), most part of the city remains submerged.

Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who is a resident of Tamil Nadu, shared a video of a damaged road on his X account. There was a big hole in the middle of it as rain water gushed in.

"Hang tight for another day everyone. Even if the rain stops, recovery is going to take a while #ChennaiRains2023 #Michaung," Ashwin wrote in the caption.

During the recently held World Cup, Ashwin featured in only one match for India. He will return to action in the upcoming Test series against South Africa, starting December 26 in Centurion.
