The BCCI secretary Jay Shah was felicitated with the Sports Business Leader of the Year Award 2023. This comes after BCCI successfully hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and launched the Women’s Premier League earlier in the year.
Besides his role with the BCCI, Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council, that conducted the Asia Cup 2023 in the build-up to the ICC event.
Shah served as the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) before joining BCCI. He was elected as the BCCI secretary in 2019 and became ACC president earlier this year.
The Cricket World Cup 2023 generated massive amounts of earnings for the BCCI and garnered huge viewership numbers as well. It had a record attendance of 1.25 million. It also broke the record for viewership numbers as over 518 million reportedly tuned up to watch the CWC 2023 final between India and Australia.
The BCCI shared the news on their official account on X and mentioned that the honor is the first for anyone in the Indian Sports administration.
